One of the many beautiful drawings from Moore’s Certain Mounds of Arkansas and of Mississippi.
Courtesy of Dr. Kent Westbrook Clarence Moore
In the early years of the 20th century, Clarence B. Moore, associated with Philadelphia’s Academy of Natural Sciences, amassed large collections of ceramics from cemeteries and mounds at Parkin and elsewhere in eastern Arkansas. Moore’s work was documented in lavishly and beautifully illustrated volumes of the Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia in 1908, 1911, and 1913.
