Little Rock--The Old State House Museum announces the schedule of its upcoming Brown Bag Lunch Lectures slated through the end of May. The Brown Bag Lecture Series is a great way for participants to gain an understanding of special Arkansas history topics. Lectures take place during the lunch hour, making them a convenient way to learn. Admission to each program is free. Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch; beverages are provided. Muffins, Chimneys and Clinkers: Rediscovering Old Davidsonville, Arkansas’s First County Seat Town, 1815-1830

This program will feature the excavations conducted by the Arkansas Archeological Survey from 2004-2009. Kathy Cande, Senior Project Archeologist for the Survey, will discuss the interplay between history and archeology, focusing on frontier life in Davidsonville.

The Battle of Helena and Its Impact on the Civil War
Noon - 1:00 p.m.
Mark Christ will discuss the Battle of Helena and explain how that event fits into the overall picture of the Civil War. He will also sign copies of his two new books: The Die is Cast: Arkansas Goes to War 1861 and Civil War Arkansas 1863: The Battle for A State. Books will be sold through the Old State House Museum Store. Mark Christ is the community outreach director for the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, where his duties include promoting the identification and preservation of Civil War sites in the state. Christ is the organizer of the Old State House Museum’s Civil War seminars and is an appointed member of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.

Searching for Martha Stalker: Uncovering the Lives of Women in History
Noon - 1:00 p.m.
Through Searching for Martha Stalker: Uncovering the Lives of Women in History, Cindy Grisham, a doctoral candidate in the Heritage Studies PhD program at Arkansas State University, will recount her path to uncover the life of the woman who was the “founding mother” of the small Delta town of Tyronza. Grisham will also detail how others may use available records to recreate the lives of other women in history. Grisham is a graduate assistant at the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum in Tyronza.
