Little Rock--The Old State House Museum announces the winners of its first-ever Arkansas history webcast competition, Digital Shorts. The webcast contest allows both adults and students to enter "short, non-fiction podcasts" in either audio or audio/visual formats. The contest entries must be related to Arkansas history between 1836 and the present.
Fourteen participants entered original, short, non-fiction webcasts about a variety of state history topics. Winners were selected in two age categories: students in grades 5–12 and adults. The museum was unable to award a winner in the audio category this year as only one entry was received.
The judges of this year’s contest were: Larry Ahart, Development Director, Old State House Museum; Ian Beard, Adult Education/Living History/Volunteer Coordinator, Old State House Museum; Trey Berry, Deputy Director for Museums, Department of Arkansas Heritage; Daniel Cockrell, Youth Education Coordinator, Old State House Museum; Dr. Bruce Hutchinson, Director Graduate Studies of Digital Filmmaking, Associate Professor of Digital Filmmaking, University of Central Arkansas; Kris Katrosh, Director, Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville; Philip Martin, MovieStyle Editor, Columnist, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette; and Jason Shivers, Head of Video Productions, Aristotle, Inc.
All entries, including the winning entries, may be seen at www.youtube.com/ArDigitalShorts. "By using YouTube to present the Digital Shorts entries, we hope to expose a much larger audience to Arkansas History," stated Bill Gatewood, Director of the Old State House Museum. "We also hope that by presenting the state's history in this format, it will have a greater impact on those who watch or listen, taking Arkansas history beyond the walls of the classroom or museum," Gatewood continued.
