MUSEUM EXPLORES THE FEDERAL CONTROL OF ARKANSAS

Friday, November 13, 2009

Little Rock--The Old State House Museum will help visitors travel back to the fall and winter of 1863-64 with a Civil War living history event on Saturday, November 21, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the ongoing Federal military occupation of Little Rock and the creation of a Unionist state government. The backdrop for the event will be the camp of the federal garrison, the creation of Arkansas’s 1864 Constitution, and the election of officials to serve in state government. Visitors can participate in a constitutional convention in the morning and an election in the afternoon. Firing demonstrations, programs on military justice, period games for young visitors, and examples of everyday life in Little Rock during the Civil War will be available throughout the event. Those who attend will receive a period-style newspaper to bring them up to speed on the news of the day.

Event Schedule:
10 a.m.: Firing Demonstration
11 a.m.: 1864 Constitutional Convention
2 p.m.: 1864 Election
3 p.m.: Firing Demonstration

These events are free to the public and will take place on the lawn of the Old State House Museum. Call the Old State House Museum at (501) 324-9685 for more information.
