Although an imposing architectural presence, Arkansas's Old State House has survived to become a National Landmark only because of the great affection of the state's citizens for their first capitol. This exhibit documents the unwavering effort to preserve this historic site and its transformation from seat of government, to Medical School, to War Memorial, to modern museum.
The majority of the images in this exhibit are from the collection of the Old State House Museum. The others are courtesy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Arkansas History Commission, John Deering, the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Kentucky Historical Society, the Minnesota Historical Society, the Ohio Historical Society, the J.B. Speed Art Museum, the Library of Congress, and the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, Central Arkansas Library System.
