Now Showing – The Art of Patterson and Barnes

The Old State House Museum commissioned artists Gary Patterson and Marion Barnes to paint Arkansas musicians to be part of the 2003 exhibition "Our Own Sweet Sounds II." Their compositions incorporate the use of many mediums including acrylic, watercolor, India ink, collage, and constructions. The expressiveness of their paintings is heightened by the evocative use of purposeful exaggeration and abstraction. What make the paintings even more unique is that each one is a collaborative effort between Patterson and Barnes. They feel that an individual work is enriched by the infusion of both artist's personal creativity, interests, and past experiences.

This room may have originally been occupied by the State Treasurer. Later, the State Auditor used this space in addition to its offices directly across the Central Hallway. During the Medical School's tenure, this space served as the Dean's Office.

After the 1996 Renovation, this room was transformed into exhibit space and has hosted exhibits on President Clinton’s road to the White House and the Boy Scouts of America in Arkansas.
