Captain Stephen Enyart

Captain Stephen B. Enyart's company of mounted gunmen, who sought to be accepted into the Arkansas Mounted Regiment a year earlier, was accepted into service in 1847. Enyart's company was made up mainly of Fayetteville and Fort Smith men. The company was sent to Mier, Mexico, where it served much of its time guarding wagon trains in northern Mexico.

Supposed martyrs such as Major Brown and tales of Mexican atrocities were used to boost recruitment.
