Archibald Yell
Yell joined the military at
a very young age, serving in
the War of 1812 and the
Seminole War. An attorney and politician, Yell was appointed to several different positions in the Arkansas Territory by President Andrew Jackson.
In 1836, after
Arkansas became a state,
Yell won its sole
congressional seat. Without
resigning his position as
congressman, Yell left
Washington, D.C. when the
Mexican War broke out,
returned to Arkansas, and
enrolled in Solon Borland’s
volunteers. He was
eventually forced to resign
his congressional seat. |
