Additional Event Details

For this Brown Bag Lunch Lecture, Scott Carter will discuss “Turkey Bowl: A Look at Thanksgiving football games in Arkansas.” This look at a longstanding tradition in Arkansas: high school football on Thanksgiving. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the final Thanksgiving Day high school football game in Arkansas. Little Rock Central had the longest series of games, but a look at other high schools also gives insight into the state of education in Arkansas.

Scott Whiteley Carter is Special Projects Administrator for the City of Little Rock. As the unofficial historian of Little Rock City Hall, he can often be found leafing through sheaves of papers in the City Clerk's vault or furiously scribbling notes in Little Rock research libraries. He is also the author of the LRCultureVulture.com blog. A native of Little Rock, he is a graduate of Missouri State University. He has previously spoken at the Brown Bag Lunch Lecture series on the life and career of actor, author and Little Rock native Ben Piazza.
