Living History

Living history performances bring Arkansas history to life for all museum visitors. These characters are worked into different segments of scheduled tours. Please notify the tour coordinator if you would like to encounter a living history character during your tour.

During your tour, you may meet Col. Pete Whetstone, a lively frontiersman who tells stories about the early days of Arkansas's statehood. Perhaps you will meet a former governor of Arkansas, or maybe even one of the former First Ladies. You could also encounter a Union or Confederate soldier who is taking a break from his daily duties, or a soldier's wife who shares stories about her life on the home front while her husband is away at war.

Living History Programs are available in the following topics:

    The Louisiana Purchase
    Territorial Arkansas
    Political History
    The Civil War
    Women's History
Send You Back to Arkansas: Our Own Sweet Sounds II

Note: We will attempt to honor your requests for specific characters, but please remember that our character presentations depend upon the availability of the living history staff.
