Gov. Orval Faubus addresses the legislature |
(Grades 4 to 9, available only at the museum)
How does a bill become a law in the Arkansas Legislature? In this exciting role-playing exercise, students assume the roles of Arkansas state senators and state representatives as they debate a bill, vote on it and then submit it to the "governor" for a final decision.
Program Requirements: A minimum of at least twenty students and no more than a three-year grade span.
For examples of some of the debates that occurred in the Arkansas General Assembly while it met at the Old State House, see the scripts for our 1836 House of Representatives video.
To help prepare your class in advance, see How a Bill Becomes a Law at the Arkansas House of Representatives' website.
