MARY KAVANAUGH OLDHAM EAGLE
Wife of James Philip Eagle, 16th Governor (1889-1893)

Born: February 4, 1854
Died: February 15, 1903
Children: none
Original Home: Kentucky

Mary Kavanaugh Oldham was born, reared, and educated in Kentucky. She married James Philip Eagle at age twenty-eight, and gave up her profession as a teacher when she became a wife. The Eagles lived in Lonoke, Arkansas. They moved to Little Rock when the people elected Eagle as Governor. They lived at Seventh and Scott streets in the Crittenden-Johnson home.

Mrs. Eagle gave her husband much moral support during their marriage. She accompanied him throughout the state on his campaigns and attended many meetings with him after his election as Governor of Arkansas. In addition to this she also was involved with many women's groups. In addition she performed church work, was involved with the Arkansas Federation of Women’s Clubs and Aesthetic Club, and founded the Women’s Cooperative Association.
