Old State House Museum recognized for exhibit design by Arkansas Museum Association

Old State House Museum - Tuesday, April 03, 2018

The Old State House Museum received an award for “Outstanding Achievement in Exhibitions” from the Arkansas Museums Association (AMA) during the association’s annual conference in March.

The museum accepted the 2018 AMA Outstanding Achievements in Exhibitions for Museums with an Annual Budget of $150,000 or Greater for its exhibit “Cabinets of Curiosities: Treasures from the University of Arkansas Museum Collections.”

"Cabinet of Curiosities: Treasures from the University of Arkansas Museum Collections" shows diverse collections that range from dinosaur toes to Ming Dynasty pottery to a machine gun allegedly taken from Bonnie and Clyde’s car. In a way, it’s a greatest hits collection of artifacts that allows viewers to experience the incredible array of world history. The exhibit is on display at the Old State House Museum through the 2018 calendar year.

Each year, the AMA presents awards to recognize excellence and encourage professional standards in Arkansas museums.

The AMA Awards competition received more than 30 applications from a wide variety of museums in the state.

Judges – museum professionals from across the state – were involved in the process of selecting the winners. Winning entries were expected to demonstrate outstanding achievement in four areas, including education, exhibitions, media and professionalism.

The Old State House Museum is located at 300 W. Markham in Little Rock. For more information, call (501) 324-9685 or visit www.oldstatehouse.com.
