‘Helaine and the Little War’ theatrical reading to be Oct. 21

The Old State House Museum will present the premiere reading of a new play, “Helaine and the Little War,” October 21 at 2 p.m.

The play, written by playwright David Eshelman and songwriters Charley Sandage and Charlie Crow, is set during the Brooks-Baxter War of Reconstruction-era Arkansas and dramatizes the African American struggle for humanity, equality and justice in the age before Jim Crow.

This presentation is supported in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and in partnership with the Department of Arkansas Heritage, Arkansas Tech University, the Arkansas State House Society and the Old State House Museum Associates.
